Martin Diaz’s path from San Bernardino Valley College to a 20-year law enforcement career highlights the power of opportunity and continued education.

Diaz began his journey in 2007 through the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Police Academy, where SBVC served as the academic sponsor. At just 20 years old, he completed the program and launched his career with the Fontana Police Department, going on to serve in roles ranging from patrol and undercover work to training and tactical negotiations.

“The academy’s connection to SBVC showed me the importance of continuing education,” Diaz said.

Building on that foundation, Diaz pursued further training and earned his bachelor’s degree while working full time.

After retiring early due to an on-the-job injury, Diaz transitioned into business ownership, founding CA Junk Masters, a Riverside-based company serving the Inland Empire. He remains committed to giving back, offering discounts to SBVC students and alumni and staying engaged with the community.

“I never forgot the support I received,” Diaz said. “If I can help even one person, it’s worth it.”

Diaz says SBVC continues to stand out as a place where students can explore opportunities and build a future.

“It feels like a university,” he said. “It’s a stepping stone, but it offers so much more.”
