A procession of SBVC faculty & staff heading down Campus Center Walkway accompanied by drumline and SBVC athletes

San Bernardino Valley College kicked off its 100th anniversary with a Centennial Opening Ceremony and procession during Opening Day. Gonfalons representing each division, a drumline, drill team, mascot Blue, and student-athletes led the celebration along the Centennial Walkway, marked with 100 years in blue.

“SBVC is the model for the vision and promise of a community college education,” said President Dr. Gilbert J. Contreras. “We are proud to be the first community college designed and built as one, and the first ‘Valley College’ in California.”

Chancellor Dr. Diana Z. Rodriguez also joined to wish SBVC a “happy 100th birthday,” praising employees for their focus on student success.

The day also launched the Valley Up! Initiative, a five-year strategic plan, and the Centennial Giving Challenge, a campus-wide fundraising competition.

Founded in 1926, SBVC continues to grow with modern facilities, record graduating classes, and expanded programs. A year of celebratory events is planned. For details, visit valleycollege.edu/100.
