Valley-Bound Spotlight: Jocelyn Olmos
Valley Bound Commitment Scholar | Future PA
For Jocelyn Olmos, college wasn't always part of a clear plan. A graduate of Eisenhower High School and proud Inland Empire native, she leaned on the advice of her family when it came time to make a decision. "My family always told me, if you're not sure where to go, try community college first. It saves money and gives you time to decide," Jocelyn shared. "San Bernardino Valley College was a godsend. It showed me what programs could really do for me."
In high school, Jocelyn's dedication to academics earned her the Distinguished Scholar
Award for maintaining a 4.0 GPA, along with induction into an all-women's honor society.
She's carried that same drive into her freshman year at SBVC, where she continues
to excel academically and stay engaged with campus life.
Her introduction to the Valley-Bound Commitment program came during a high school
visit from SBVC representatives. "After they came to Eisenhower, I just knew I had
to apply," she said. Jocelyn graduated in 2024 and enrolled at SBVC that fall, majoring
in liberal arts and biological and physical sciences. Her goal is to become a physician
assistant specializing in dermatology. She plans to transfer to Cal State San Bernardino
to continue her path through a PA program.
Jocelyn credits Valley-Bound with giving her the confidence and support she needed
to succeed. "Valley-Bound is the program every student should get into. It's the perfect
solution for anyone unsure about the college experience," she said. "It was such a
great way to meet people, get involved, and feel supported from day one."
She also shared her appreciation for the donors who make programs like Valley-Bound
possible. "Thank you to the donors for providing us the opportunity to get support
in our education—especially here in the IE," Jocelyn said. “It was such a blessing.
I was so grateful, and it truly meant everything to me."
