SBVC Basketball Coach Celebrates More than 400 Wins
Since taking the helm of the SBVC men’s basketball program in 2008, Quincy Brewer has never had a losing season. His career record now stands at 402–109—the most wins in the college’s history. This past season, the Wolverines finished an impressive 27–6 and made a run to the state semifinals.
“I’ve been fortunate to have very good players and very good coaches—it’s been a great journey,” Brewer said. “The student-athletes here have made it a great job for me on and off the court.”
Averaging 25 wins per season while consistently facing some of the toughest teams in the state, Brewer credits the program’s success to the dedication of his players and staff. But it’s not just the wins that matter. Nearly every student-athlete who has come through Brewer’s program has continued on to a four-year university, including several who’ve played at Division I programs and professionally overseas.
“The important thing is that they’re getting an education,” Brewer emphasized.
A standout player himself at North High School and Arizona State University, Brewer brings more than just game strategy to the locker room—he brings mentorship. Many of his proudest moments have come not from buzzer-beaters, but from one-on-one conversations in his office, helping players navigate both academics and life.
“Once you understand what’s going on in their personal lives, that’s when they really thrive as student-athletes,” he said.
Though a state championship has narrowly eluded the team—SBVC has reached the finals three of the past four years—Brewer remains focused on what truly matters: continuing to help student-athletes earn scholarships, graduate, and grow as individuals.
“I see us continuing to assist young men and help them achieve their education and become effective members of society in their careers,” Brewer said.
With more than 400 wins and countless lives impacted, Coach Brewer’s legacy continues to grow—on and off the court.
